I am going to share 4 great ways to avoid overeating at a restaurant. If you want to easily cut your eating in half without making a big fuss and without missing the food then you are in luck because these tips are exactly what you are looking for. I encourage you to take a couple of minutes to read this article before you go out to eat.
Avoid Overeating at a Restaurant
1. Start with awareness not the bread bowl. So here is the problem, you go to a restaurant because you are hungry, so the first food that comes can often be the most tempting and because of your hunger your mind gets locked on the bread (or worse yet the nacho chips) that is served first. Be aware of this and know that everyone is vulnerable to this early “starter” food.
Instead of locking your focus on the bread, focus outward, notice the waitresses and how they are dressed, the lighting, the sound, the mood of the restaurant, this occupies your mind and before you know it your meal will be there and you will have never missed the bread.
2. Order coffee or tea. When you have a warm drink to sip you can nurture it more than a hot drink that you gulp. Just take a sip of your hot drink whenever you have a thought of grabbing something to eat that is not part of your meal.
3. Ask for your meal AND a doggy bag. By having the waiter bring a take home container with your meal you can divide the food and leave on your plate only what you need to eat. This has a couple of advantages, you leave the restaurant feeling pleasantly full, not stuffed and you have lunch all ready for tomorrow.
4. Divide your plate. An easy way to determine portion-size on the fly is to divide your plate. Draw an imaginary line through the middle of the plate and the top should be completely vegetables and the bottom should be 1/4 protein and 1/4 carbohydrate.
By using these tips you will avoid overeating at a restaurant and get the guilt and frustration out of your life.
