The Basics of VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol)
Voice over internet protocol is a common name being used for a technology that uses transmission that delivers voice communication through the internet or packet-switched networks. There are many other terms that are being applied on it too, such as internet telephony, broadband telephony or broadband phone. Basically, its main purpose is to deliver communication services in the form of such as facsimile, voice or voice-messaging applications. They are all communicated or conveyed through the internet. How it is done is quite a complex yet amazing process, a development that could not have been thought possible during the early centuries. The analog voice signal is altered to a digital configuration and compression of the signal into the internet packets. This is when sending out a communication. When replying back, the steps are reordered. With the audio codecs in it, it programs speech which transmits this into an IP network as a digital audio through an audio stream and its use vary on applications of VOIP.
In 2004, many customers have availed of this Voice Over Internet Protocol as if it were just any other regular landline. Some companies like call centers use this to make inbound and outbound calls domestically or internationally with a Direct Inbound Dialing.
There are three ways in which this can be offered to the public. One is where for instance; telephone or Internet companies use this connecting an IP network to an already available telephone jack. It is located only in one place. Secondly, the VOIP phones are being used even without having to use the computer. Instead of connecting to a telephone jack to an IP network, consumers can just directly connect with the IP network. An example of this is the use of the wi-fi network. Thirdly, the soft phone makes it possible for a consumer to make VOIP calls without having to install a dedicated hardware. It is just software installed in the computer. All of these three are latest innovations of modern technology which make it easier for people to communicate without having to use the traditional telephone.
The use of Voice Over Internet Protocol has been an increasing method used by telecommunications companies nowadays. There is even a latest development of the use of dual phones wherein a connection will be established between the cellular network and the wi-fi network. This will surely propel the fame of Voice over internet protocol further. Some cellular phone manufacturing companies have even adapted this such as Nokia and Sony Ericsson, though they still are independent of mobile network companies. Some network operators though did not tie up with the use of VOIP, such in the case of T-Mobile and Truphone.
Today, we see the many benefits of the use of Voice Over Internet Protocol in the many ways it can be used. For instance, big super malls have also adapted wi-fi so that people whose cellular phones are wi-fi ready can immediately connect to the internet and transfer communication using voice or voice-messaging applications.
